On a rainy, damp morning of automn, typical for Holland, we arrived at the most famous pigeonsport family from this country: the Eijerkamp Family. A night before, we were welcome in a fairy tale place, at only 7 kilometers from Ponderosa. I mean the smollest town from Holland, an old village with only 120 inhabitants.

All the houses are hundreds of years old, and they are a great tourist objective mainly because it was here that the famous Charles Dickens lived and wrote a great part of his works of art. Actually we were accommodated  in the small hotel  where he has been living for many years, and my friend Florea Sorin stayed in his room. The landscape that surround this village are simply wonderful. Endless fields, thousands of  wild geese that spend here their wintertime and very tender and friendly deer. In order to reach Ponderosa, we had to cross a channel by the ferryboat, as the watering and drainage systems from Holland are famous and are probably the best in the world.

At Ponderosa, the activity was intense, as they were preparing the crossings for the reproduction lot. We watched all the top doves and all the lofts . Henk Jurriens was an extraordinary host; I spoke to the famous veterinary Van Der Sluis, and we approached interesting subjects pertaining to the pigeons’ health. 20 squabs from the best birds of Ponderosa ( such as Abel, Che, Rossi, Jackpot, Euro, etc.) will be brought this spring in the breeding aviaries of Nea Ion “Mazare”.
