On the eve of the Olympic Games Bas Verkerk tried to motivate his racing team for the final NPO one day long distance race of the season. And they were in great shape: four outstanding racing birds were clocked in a matter of seconds after a 750km race. They had an impressive 8 minute lead over the rest of the pack – a historic feat.
The fifth pigeon in the race was in fact a Verkerk pigeon as well. In other words the team won the first five prizes in the NPO race from Ruffec against 3,780 pigeons. It was a memorable race at the end of an excellent NPO season for the father-son combination from Reeuwijck. This is an overview of the impressive 2016 season of Verkerk:

The one year old hen NL15-1706421 Highlight claimed victory in Ruffec, with a lead of less than a second over the number two. being less than a second faster than the number two. It is a crowning achievement for this hen, which had an outstanding season with several 1:100 prizes.
